Decoupling of dissolved and particulate Li isotopes during estuarine processes

چکیده
Lithium isotopes in marine authigenic or detrital sedimentary archives have been recently used to trace continental weathering over geologic timescales. However, interpretations are predominantly based on the assumption that riverine Li isotopic signals can be propagated through estuaries without modification. Here, we verify this hypothesis by investigating behaviour of Changjiang (Yangtze) River estuary. We observe a conservative mixing dissolved and its between water seawater. The δ 7 yields non-linear increase with salinity, significant occurs during initial mixing. Through studied transect, estuarine flocculation resuspension processes cause homogenisation offshore particulate values, which close average composition upper crust. This study provides clear direct evidence signal is not modified large rivers, but caution should exercised when using marginal seas investigate past weathering.

Dissolved Copper Speciation Behaviour during Estuarine Mixing in the San Simon Inlet (wet Season, Galicia). Influence of Particulate Matter
The speciation trend of dissolved copper (DCu) was studied by first time in a Galician Ria across the estuarine zone of the Vigo Ria during the wet season and related to the copper levels in suspended particulate matter (PCu) and sediments. In the riverine and ocean end-members DCu concentrations can be defined as pristine (<4 nM in Oitavén River). DCu is not conservative during the estuarine m...
متن کاملBehaviour of Li and its isotopes during metasomatism of French Massif central lherzolites
Li behaviour and distribution in the mantle were investigated by ion microprobe in situ measurements on co-existing olivine (ol), orthopyroxene (opx), clinopyroxene (cpx) and amphibole (amp) in xenoliths from the French Massif Central. The fertile spinel lherzolites of this study record increasing degrees of mantle metasomatism, from unmetasomatised anhydrous samples through cryptically metasom...
متن کاملIncorporation of aged dissolved organic carbon (DOC) by oceanic particulate organic carbon (POC): An experimental approach using natural carbon isotopes
Incorporation of C-depleted (old) dissolved organic carbon (DOC) on/into particulate organic carbon (POC) has been suggested as a possible mechanism to explain the low DC-POC values observed in the deep ocean [Druffel, E.R.M., Williams, P.M., 1990. Identification of a deep marine source of particulate organic carbon using bomb C. Nature, 347, 172–174.]. A shipboard incubation experiment was per...
متن کاملBlack Carbon in Estuarine and Coastal Ocean Dissolved Organic Matter
We measured black carbon (BC) in ultrafiltered, high–molecular weight dissolved organic matter (UDOM) in surface waters of Delaware Bay, Chesapeake Bay, and the adjacent Atlantic Ocean (U.S.A.) to investigate the importance of riverine and estuarine dissolved organic matter (DOM) as a source of BC to the ocean. BC was 5– 72% of UDOM-C (27 6 17%), which corresponds to 8.9 6 6.5% of dissolved org...
متن کاملInterpretation of benthic foraminiferal stable isotopes in subtidal estuarine environments
Here we present a novel approach for the interpretation of stable isotope signatures recorded in benthic foraminifera from subtidal estuarine environments. The stable isotopic composition (δ18O and δ13C) of living Ammonia tepida and Haynesina germanica is examined at four stations in the Auray River estuary (Gulf of Morbihan, France) sampled in two contrasting seasons, spring 2006 and winter 20...
